Chevron Wheatstone Project

The Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project encompasses an onshore gas processing facility on the Pilbara coast of Western Australia, a subsea gathering system, and an offshore production platform. SEA Global personnel held senior management and engineering positions within the Chevron Wheatstone Upstream Project Team, contributing throughout the feasibility, Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), and Detailed Engineering phases of the project. SEA Global is now supporting Chevron and the Wheatstone Project in the Operations Phase.

SEA Global provided senior-level engineering and management support throughout the feasibility, FEED, and Detailed Design phases, establishing technical direction for subsea scopes and contributing to execution strategies, cost estimates, and schedules for Phase 3 and 4 of the project.

The seconded team delivered specialised support in the design and installation of subsea pipelines and production systems, alongside providing quality assurance and procurement oversight for subsea materials and equipment. The work also involved proactive interface management to ensure a seamless transition from design to fabrication and construction phases, close collaboration across Downstream, Platform, and Installation teams for integrated solutions, and strategic involvement in the StablePIPE initiative utilizing the O-Tube testing facility. During the Operations Phase, the scope extends to survey planning, asset integrity assessments, providing cyclonic response tools, and managing asset information via a geospatial digital twin developed for the Wheatstone subsea assets and export trunkline.

Scope of Work

Technical Leadership

Senior-level engineering and management support was provided throughout the feasibility, FEED, and Detailed Design phases, ensuring clear technical direction for subsea scopes and contributing to the development of execution strategies, cost estimates, and schedules for Phase 3 and 4 of the project. The seconded engineering and project management team, consisting of 30 highly experienced professionals, delivered specialised support in the design and installation of subsea pipelines and production systems.

Quality and Procurement Oversight

Oversight and management of quality assurance and procurement processes for materials and equipment associated with the subsea scope, ensuring alignment with project objectives.

Interface Management for Construction Readiness

Proactive management of interfaces to ensure a seamless transition from design to fabrication and construction phases, with a consistent focus on maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

Integrated Project Collaboration

Close coordination with Downstream, Platform, and Installation teams to develop integrated, efficient, and high-value solutions without compromising safety or quality.

Participation in Joint Industry Project

Strategic involvement in the StablePIPE initiative, including utilisation of the O-Tube testing facility, to deliver measurable value to the Project.

Operations Phase Support

SEA Global provides support to the Chevron Subsea and Pipelines team across a range of subsea assets, including those of the Wheatstone Field. This support includes survey planning, response and integrity assessments, provision of Cyclonic response tools and in the mapping and coordination of asset integrity information and activities. The operations support is based around the geospatial digital twin developed by SEA for the Wheatstone subsea assets and export trunkline.
