The Regional Director of Environmental Protection in Gdańsk has issued an environmental decision for the transmission infrastructure of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm.

Ocean Winds Gets Environmental Nod for BC- Wind Offshore Wind Farm

We are pleased to share the news that our client Ocean Winds has been awarded an environmental decision for the transmission infrastructure of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm.

The transmission infrastructure will be implemented using trenchless technology (HDD), minimising environmental impact, including on the coastal zone. The project includes the construction of approximately 33 km of cable lines offshore and about 8 km on land. The energy generated by the BC-Wind farm will be safely transmitted to the PSE power station in Choczewo, ensuring a stable connection to the National Power System.

BC-Wind is an offshore wind farm project located approximately 23 kilometers north of the shore, near the municipalities of Krokowa and Choczewo in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The project aims to achieve a planned capacity of up to 500 MW, with a total farm area of 90.94 km².

SEA Global, in cooperation with Gazprojekt, are actively engaged in the third phase of the investment project (Export Cable Route). The primary responsibilities include overseeing the coordination and preparation of all necessary documentation required for the application and obtaining of the Construction Permit. SEA Global has also been tasked with the design of the shore crossing using the HDD method, in addition to engineering the cable system for this phase of the project.

“Obtaining the environmental decision for the transmission infrastructure is a crucial milestone in the BC-Wind project,” stated Kacper Kostrzewa, Project Director. “We are approaching the final investment decision and the permitting phase for the offshore wind farm’s construction. This project will make a significant contribution to Poland’s energy transition. Furthermore, it will be the first offshore wind farm in our Baltic Sea portfolio.”

Congratulations to the team at Ocean Winds for achieving this wonderful milestone. We are proud and excited to be a part of important projects like this, moving the needle on energy transition in Poland.
