To safeguard gas supply to Europe in the face of geopolitical instability, a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) was needed in Northern Europe before winter 2022. Beginning in April of that year, it required a new jetty, mooring facility, pipeline, riser and associated topsides infrastructure.
An existing client contacted SEA Global with the urgent requirement to complete detailed design and commence construction for a facility that needed to be ready for start-up (RFSU) in 6 months, before the onset of winter in a region reliant on gas for heating. While preliminary designs to define the facility layout had been completed, the precise definition of components had not yet begun.
Detailed design to confirm technical specifications would need to begin in parallel with procurement work to identify materials and components that could be sourced in the required timeframe. As procurement and construction progressed, engineering teams were required to respond to emergent issues rapidly to avoid delaying the facility completion date.

Subsea design completed 7 weeks after kick-off
Engineering design and drawings completed for pipeline, spool and riser 7 weeks following project kick-off; only 10 weeks after the initial enquiry. Rapid analysis confirms that locally available materials are suitable for all components. Construction begins 3 weeks later.
All engineering design completed 12 weeks after kick-off.
Detailed design of all systems and components completed following closeout of HAZOP & HAZID processes, enabling Independent Verification Body (IVB) review and procurement processes to commence in parallel.
RFSU achieved 6 months after project kick-off.
Topsides fabrication commences 16 weeks after project kickoff, with installation, pre-commissioning and related scopes completed without issue or delay.
